The Product

Alkoto is an e-commerce platform offering a wide range of customisable print and promotional products. Its catalogue includes everything from business cards, stickers and signs to clothing, accessories and personalised gifts. With so many different products and configuration options available, the website needed to help customers understand the offer and quickly find what was relevant to them. The project focused on redesigning the overall shopping experience, making the catalogue easier to explore and creating a clearer path from product discovery to checkout.

The challenge

The existing website felt dated and visually cluttered. A large and varied catalogue had been organised into only a few broad categories, which made browsing difficult and forced users to process too much information at once. Important elements competed for attention, while the navigation did not always reflect the way customers would naturally search for a product. The challenge was to bring more structure to the experience without oversimplifying the offer or removing information users needed to make a purchase.

The Approach

I started by analysing competitors and reviewing the existing catalogue to understand how the products could be grouped more clearly. I then reorganised the information architecture, introducing more meaningful categories and subcategories to make products easier to locate. Once the new structure was defined, I translated it into mid-fidelity wireframes and worked through the main shopping journey, including navigation, product discovery and checkout. Feedback and iteration helped me refine the interactions before moving into the final visual design.

The Outcome

The redesign introduced a cleaner and more approachable e-commerce experience, with a stronger hierarchy and a clearer structure throughout the journey. The new navigation made the catalogue easier to browse, while content was divided into smaller sections to help users understand information without feeling overwhelmed. Product pages and key actions became easier to identify, and the redesigned cart gave greater visibility to essential details such as selected items, quantities, prices and the final total. Together, these changes created a smoother path towards checkout and a stronger foundation for improving conversion.
